Can't make up you mind whether you want a funny or sad - long or short - pink or violet poem? Here are a few from our vast poetry collection.

Collection : Poems for Children - 1944

When "Grand Old Men" Persist in Folly by Edward Lear

When 'Grand old men' persist in folly
In slaughtering men and chopping trees,
What art can soothe the melancholy
Of those whom futile 'statesmen' teaze?

The only way their wrath to cover
To let mankind know who's to blame-o--
Is first to rush by train to Dover
And then straight onward to Sanremo.

There once was a parrot named Jack by Stuart Macfarlane

There once was a parrot named Jack,
Who suffered a coronary attack,
The man from the vet,
With little regret,
Said , “Toasted he’ll make a nice snack”.

There was an Old Person of Nice by Edward Lear

There was an old person of Nice,
Whose associates were usually Geese.
They walked out together, in all sorts of weather.
That affable person of Nice!

Red Robin by Stuart Macfarlane

Little robin red breast
upon a Christmas card
looks so bright and jolly
like the one in my backyard.

Little robin red breast
giving Christmas cheer
your song makes me happy
stay with me through the year.
