The Cat and the Moon by William Butler Yeats

The cat went here and there
and the moon spun round like a top,
and the nearest kin of the moon,
the creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
for, wander and wail as he would,
the pure cold light in the sky
troubled his animal blood.

Minnaloushe runs in the grass
lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet,
what better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
tired of that courtly fashion,
a new dance turn.

Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
from moonlit place to place,
the sacred moon overhead
has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
will pass from change to change,
and that from round to crescent,
from crescent to round they range?

Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
alone, important and wise,
and lifts to the changing moon
his changing eyes.

Birthday Wish by Stuart Macfarlane

I met a nice fairy,
On the way home from school,
She granted me a wish,
She knew I was no fool.

I said weekly birthdays,
Would really be great,
For fifty two weeks,
Is too long to wait.

Now presents and presents,
Each week do arrive,
We’ve bought a bigger house,
In fact we bought five,

But the gifts keep on coming,
And there’s no room to store,
At first they were fun,
But now they’re a bore.

But horror of horrors,
Is the effect upon me,
For I’ve outgrown my parents,
I’m now two hundred and three.

Never Marry an Elephant by Stuart Macfarlane

Never Marry an Elephant,
It’s not a good idea,
I met one once at a dance,
While drinking too much beer.

Before I knew, I had proposed,
And a wedding day was set,
We weren’t married by a minister,
We were married by the Vet.

We honeymooned at Glasgow Zoo,
It was a lot of fun,
We spent our time eating penguins,
While basking in the sun.

But soon our marriage was over,
And I was free once more,
Oh never marry an elephant,
For by gosh how they SNORE!

Cupid's Arrow by Stuart Macfarlane

When Cupid lets his arrow fly,
He never stops to see,
The victims age or status,
Or nationality.

There once was a parrot named Jack by Stuart Macfarlane

There once was a parrot named Jack,
Who suffered a coronary attack,
The man from the vet,
With little regret,
Said , “Toasted he’ll make a nice snack”.
